The AIA Great European Carnival Celebrates Its Opening

December 15, 2016

Hong Kong (15th December 2016) – This year The AIA Great European Carnival has returned with a wonderful line up of family entertainment, created especially for Hong Kong with a mixture of ride favourites, carnival games, selfie worlds, street performers, magical lanterns, digital interactive experiences, great food and drinks and a community stage packed with entertainment and displays over the 59 days of the Carnival.

“This year we’re delighted with the ongoing support of AIA, our long term sponsors, partners and friends. Everyone has stepped up in the spirit of collaboration and community, all with the one focus of delivering a fantastic winter of fun for all of Hong Kong’s residents and visitors. So far the sun is shining on this year’s Carnival, so we look forward to welcoming everyone down to the Central Harbourfront Event Space,” Michael Denmark, Chief Executive Officer of The Great European Carnival Limited, said.

The AIA Great European Carnival team is also supporting AIA and their science-backed Wellness programme, AIA Vitality, by integrating health and wellbeing activities into the Carnival. They will be teaming up with some of Hong Kong’s national sport associations to showcase fitness and skill activities starting January 2017, through to the end of the Carnival.  There are six Associations that will be participating – Hong Kong Rugby Association; Hong Kong Football Association; Hong Kong Cricket Association; Hong Kong Shuttlecock Association; Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association and the Hong Kong Baseball Association, all of which will be showcasing their sports at different times throughout the event and inviting Carnival-goers to take part.

Jacky Chan, CEO of AIA Hong Kong & Macau, said, “AIA is exhilarated to be the title sponsor of The AIA Great European Carnival for the third consecutive year. By working with TGEC, we hope to bring our customers and community many joyful and exciting experiences. Our annual festive rendezvous with the people of Hong Kong, the Carnival is in perfect alignment with AIA Hong Kong’s sponsorship strategy. It is a popular world-class event that can be enjoyed by members of the public and will create happy memories with the community. Featuring the key messages of ‘AIA Vitality’, this year’s Carnival will have an atmosphere of energy and revelry by including a broad range of fun, sports-related activities. This move underscores AIA’s commitment to our brand promise as ‘The Real Life Company’ by helping people live healthier, better and happier lives.”

In addition to all the traditional favourites at the Carnival guests have an opportunity to win a brand-new Volkswagen Golf GTI by taking part in a Carnival GTI Karaoke competition.  Gather your family and friends, pile into the GTI and sing your favourite karaoke.  Performances will be uploaded to TGEC’s facebook and our facebook friends will decide who delivers the best performance to win the car!

“We’re very excited to be working with Park ‘n Shop Money Back who is offering a discount voucher across all their stores. Plus British Airways is providing discounted flights, Deliveroo and Castelo Concepts are offering specials for The AIA Great European Carnival tickets, Ovolo Southside, Uber, Benefit Cosmetics and Stella Artois are running a variety of competitions throughout Hong Kong,” Denmark commented.

The other improvement this year is the introduction of RFID, a swipe card, as a means of paying for the rides and games with a cashless card.

“Traditionally carnivals use tokens to pay for games, rides and attractions,” Michael Denmark said.  “But in order to speed up service, The AIA Great European Carnival will provide swipe cards to each guest with e-tokens to spend.  Each e-token is valued at HK$10.  Guests can top up their cards at token boxes around the Carnival as per usual,” Denmark added.

Food and Beverages will be provided on a cash basis.

As always the Carnival has one million specially selected new toys to giveaway.  The Carnival has toys from the recently released movie Trolls, and for the very, first time, Sesame Street characters.
